An outbreak of 2019-nCoV has been ongoing in mainland China. Cases have also now been identified in several countries around the world. To date, no cases have been detected in New Zealand.

Coronaviruses are a large and diverse family of viruses which include viruses that are known to cause illness in animals and in humans, including the common cold, severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). A novel coronavirus (nCoV) is a new strain that has not been previously identified in humans.

 

Travellers returning from overseas

All travellers returning to New Zealand who have been anywhere in mainland China in the last 14 days should see the Ministry of Health information and advice on self-isolation.

Notification of suspected or confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019-nCov)

Health practitioners are required to notify any suspected or confirmed cases of novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) to the local Medical Officer of Health. For notifications and advice related to any possible cases please call the duty Medical Officer of Health through the hospital switchboard.
