Human and animal sewage contains large numbers of potential pathogens (disease causing organisms). If sewage collection, treatment and disposal are not managed properly it can pose a significant threat to public health.

Our Health Protection Officers work with regional and local council on:

  • planning and resource consent processes
  • surveillance
  • information gathering
  • responding to incidents and complaints
